Joanna is an Award-Winning Composer born in Perth, Scotland.
Commissioned by His Majesty King Charles III in 2023 to write a Song in dedication to Her Majesty Queen Camilla at the Honours of Scotland service in St Giles Cathedral. Joanna's song was later re-recorded by Mezzo-Soprano Karen Cargill at Balmoral and broadcast on Classic FM in 2025.
Joanna composed 'Be Still' and directed the music with her choir; 'Voces Illuminae' at a special service held at Crathie Kirk, Balmoral in the presence of their Majesties, and the Duke and Duchess of Rothesey (William and Katherine) the following year. In July 2025 Joanna premiered a new fanfare and arrangement of the National Anthem at St George's Chapel, Windsor at a concert of Royal music conducted by Paul Mealor.
Orchestrated on the popular Netflix show: 'The Night Agent' series 2 and 3 which reached no.1 on Netflix in 90 countries.
Joanna's debut Classical Choral album 'Love Illuminates' released in 2023 with record label Regent Records, Directed by Sarah MacDonald. Joanna's music has been performed on BBC Radio 3 - with the BBC Singer's on the morning of Queen Elizabeth's funeral, in concert with the London Symphony Chorus and Orchestra, and in multiple venues including The Royal Albert Hall, and on live National TV in Germany.
Joanna has that natural ability to capture a range of moods and styles in one piece and is both at home with choral and symphonic writing. Joanna is not just invested in the notes on the page, but the players, singers and audience for whom she is penning each inspired note for.
When not writing music she is usually paddle boarding down the river thames... or attempting to play the bagpipes!
Joanna's Inspiration is summed up by a quote from Bernstein:
"There is no aspect of music which doesn't intrigue me and claim me 100%, whether it's performing it or talking about it or writing it."
